Ben & Holly's Little Kingdom is a British preschool animated television series.[1] The show was created by Neville Astley and Mark Baker, and produced by Astley Baker Davies and Entertainment One (the companies responsible for Peppa Pig).[2] The series first aired on 6 April 2009, and aired its last episode on 24 December 2013. The season started with "The Lake Nose Monster" on February 19, 2009 on Disney XD US and on March 27, 2009 for Disney Channel US. "Tip of the Day" premiered on Toon Disney on January 23, 2009 and served as an unofficial launch of Season 2 until the channel's replacement by Disney XD. Three Season 1 episodes ("Phineas and Ferb Get Busted!", "Unfair Science Fair" and "Unfair Science Fair Redux (Another Story)") were held until just prior to the Season 2 premieres on the two channels, and the season finale was "Make Play" and "Candace Gets Busted".
In North America, the DVD and Blu-ray were released on 28 July 2009. The release is identical to the Region 2 version, including the intact Confidential, even though it includes clips from the 1996 TV movie which at the time could not be released in Region 1 due to licensing issues.
The Canadian cable network Space aired the special on July 25th, 2009 in an 85-minute timeslot (including commercials) with minimal edits, the most noticeable being the omission of the trailer for The Waters of Mars. As a result of the edit, the episode ends uniquely, with the traditional "howlaround" sound replaced instead with a single tolling of the cloister bell.
After episode 97, there were initially no plans for Dragon Ball Kai to reach the Majin Buu Saga. A new anime series based on the Toriko manga debuted in April 2011, taking over the Dragon Ball Kai time slot at 9 AM on Sunday mornings before the One Piece anime series. The 97th episode of the series was broadcast on March 27, 2011 in Japan, and January 1, 2012 in America. The series was in syndication in Japan for exactly two years. Despite this, the series has been one of the top 10 rated anime series every week since syndication began in April 2009. The 98th episode of the series, which recapped the entire series and provided some closure, was released to DVD/Blu-ray on August 2, 2011, in Japan and was aired on Nicktoons in the U.S. on February 8, 2013.[7][8] In November 2012, it was confirmed that the production of Dragon Ball Z Kai would continue and air outside of Japan.[9] Mayumi Tanaka (the Japanese voice of Krillin in the series) posted the news on her blog confirming that Dragon Ball Kai would be continuing, as voice work was already underway for the early stages of the Majin Buu story arc. Her post went on to specify that the series revival is for the overseas market, and as of the time of her post there are no plans to air the new episodes in Dragon Ball's home country of Japan.[9] In April 2013, Sean Schemmel and Kyle Hebert (the Funimation dub voice actors for Goku and Gohan) confirmed they were recording their lines for the Funimation dub of the Buu Saga. In November 2013, when questioned about it on their Facebook page, it was stated by Australian anime distributor Madman Entertainment that the Buu Saga of Dragon Ball Z Kai should be released on November 8, 2014 on Cartoon Network, as they were just waiting on dubs to be finished.[10]
Dragon Ball Kai includes a complete re-recording of the dialog by most of the original Japanese voice cast (in part due to the master audio for Z being permanently lost), as well as completely new sound design with updated sound effects. The opening and ending themes are completely new. Takayoshi Tanimoto performs the series' opening themes "Dragon Soul" and "Kuu-Zen-Zetsu-Go", and the closing theme "Yeah! Break! Care! Break!" These new opening and closing credits have newly animated appearances by most of the main cast, as well as for the villains, such as Raditz, Nappa, Vegeta, Frieza, Zarbon, Dodoria, and the Ginyu Force. There's also a new artwork clip after every intermission, such as one of Cui and Vegeta in episode 19. Unlike the original Dragon Ball Z, which only had two sets of eyecatches for the entire series, in Dragon Ball Kai, it changes every few episodes to feature an appropriate character ensemble/situation.
As with most filler sequences in Dragon Ball Z, the Garlic Jr. Saga does not air in Dragon Ball Kai. Originally lasting from episodes 108 to 117, the saga featured the return of Garlic Jr., the main villain from the first DBZ movie. The saga was completely filler and Garlic Jr. or any of his henchmen did not appear in the original manga. Because Kai stays truer to the manga, this saga has been completely cut out.
After its 2 million admissions score in Japan in February, Oceans continues its international tour with a stopover in the USA. Released on Earth Day (April 22), the film climbed to the top of the general box office, attracting 324,000 spectators ($2.5 million). This is a rare feat for a foreign film, and virtually unheard of for a French documentary. Apart from the Fahrenheit 9/11 by Michael Moore ($119 million) and the French documentary The Emperor's Journey (aka March of the Penguins), which took $77 million, other documentaries rarely top the $30 million mark. After one week on the screens, Oceans tallied over 1.4 million admissions ($11 million) and now ranks as one of the 10 best-performing documentary films in the United States. 22 Bullets was released in Russia with unexpected success. Richard Berry's film clocked up 440,000 admissions in 20 days. Since films remain on Russian screens for only a short time, 22 Bullets is coming close to the end of its run. After a bleak year for French films in Russia in 2009, these are fine results in this territory, not rivaled since the first episode of the Mesrine series hit the screens in 2008 (420,000 admissions). The Concert continues its run in Italy and Spain. With, respectively, 590,000 and 180,000 admissions to its credit, the film has achieved an outstanding performance, bolstered by stable attendance figures throughout that bear witness to positive word of mouth publicity. The Concert was also released in Japan on April 17, where it constantly showed to packed screenings at the Bunkamura cinema and the Cine Switch Ginza (Tokyo's major movie theaters). It has attracted 32,000 spectators from 5 prints. The film's distributor, Gaga Corporation, who is banking on extended success for the film, is due to raise the number of prints in circulation to 12. Now credited with close to 1 million admissions abroad, the film's international score will soon exceed its attendance figures in France (1.9 million), due, in particular, to its upcoming release in the USA on July 16 by the Weinstein Company Inc. Finally, we can note the fine results registered by the French majority film The Ghost Writer. Shot in English, this film is approaching the 5 million admissions mark abroad. Its low-key reception in the USA (1.9 million admissions) was compensated for by excellent scores in Europe: 700,000 admissions to date in Spain, 570,000 admissions in 20 days in the UK, 400,000 admissions in two weeks in Italy, and 400,000 admissions in Poland. The film is also slated for upcoming release in Australia and Asian territories. The Ghost Writer could well finish its run with 8 million admissions outside France, doubling the score of Oliver Twist, Roman Polanski's previous film.
Two DVDs of the show, The Bug Club and Change Happens, were released in August 2009[3]; with more DVDs following in 2009 and 2010.[4] In August 2009, the first ten episodes of season one were added to The iTunes Store.
Music from the series was first released on May 4, 2009 as an Amazon.com exclusive. Sid the Science Kid: Soundtrack - Volume 1 features 18 original songs from the first half of the series. The albums was released both on CD and for digital download.
DVDs of the series are being released by the Jim Henson Company and NCircle Entertainment. Single-disc collections of four similar themed episodes are being released. Starting in August 2009, full episodes of Sid the Science Kid became available for purchase and downloading via the iTunes Store.
In fall 2009 the Jim Henson Company released an iPhone application of Sid's microphone. The apps design and audio effects replicate the functions of the microphone Sid has on the show. On the iPhone, users can record their own voices, or other sounds, for up to 20 seconds and then play them back.
